Product Details

The Anyday Sweatshirt is a handknit twist on the classic sweatshirt, complete with V-detail at the front neck.

This size-inclusive pattern includes built-in fit adjustments for all genders, allowing you to achieve a great fit straight from the pattern. There is optional bust shaping up to an H-cup, as well as regular and tall lengths. The sweatshirt is worked from the top-down, using a seamless drop-shoulder construction.

The relaxed fit of the sweatshirt allows for comfortable layering, while simple shaping techniques are used to refine the traditional rectangular drop-shoulder construction. Short rows at the upper back, and the centre top of the sleeves, gently shape the sweater around the slope of your shoulders. In combination with underarm shaping, and sleeve gussets, this reduces excess fabric bunching around the underarm. The result is both a cleaner, refined style, and easier, more comfortable movement.

The pattern has been thoughtfully graded to maintain the design lines as proportions change between sizes. For example, larger sizes have more shaping around the underarm, ensuring that the join between sleeve and armhole hits the same point on the arm.

Basic yarn information and garment measurements are given below. Download a pdf with all of the sizing information and yardage so you can plan your project before purchasing the pattern.

You will begin the sweatshirt by working a narrow, textured strip. This crisp design detail also adds structure at a key point, preventing the back neck and shoulders from stretching over time. Then, you will work the upper back from stitches picked up along the long edge of this strip. German short rows are worked to shape the shoulder, with larger sizes including increases to shape the bottom of the armhole. Once the upper back is complete, the stitches are put on hold and stitches are picked up along the other side of the shoulder selvedge strip for the upper front. Each side of the front neck is worked separately until the neck shaping is complete, and then joined with a cast-on at the center front. Both a chart and written directions are included for the V-detail, which combines garter stitch, slipped stitches, and simple cables to get the classic look just right.

Once the upper front is completed, you will join the upper back and fronts by casting on additional stitches across each underarm. Then, you will work the body in the round. Slipped stitch faux-seams are added to echo the slipped stitches at the shoulders and front neck. The body is completed with a simple 1x1 rib. After that, the sleeves are worked from stitches picked up around each armhole. The sleeves are gently tapered, with more dramatic shaping immediately above the cuffs. This practical style can easily be worn down or pushed up. Finally, you'll complete the sweatshirt with a 1x1 rib neckband. This is worked from stitches picked up along the remaining edge of the shoulder selvedge strip and around the front neckline. The only finishing required before the sweatshirt can become a well-loved part of your everyday wardrobe is blocking and weaving in the ends.
